Inverse design methodologies of meta-optics have received much attention in the design of novel optical functionalities with high efficiencies. Here, we propose an improved eigendecomposition-free rigorous diffraction interface theory formalism to overcome the limitations of inverse-design methods. We further extend the method to support the design of parameter-constrained and free-form meta-atoms for the functionalities of phase-controlling and reconfiguration. Finally, we present the benchmark results, showing that our method performs up to 3.8 times faster on graphics processing units than the differentiable rigorous coupled-wave analysis. Our work smooths the path for the rapid inverse design of intricate large-scale three-dimensional meta-structures.
